Sepsis Today: What Nurses Should Know

1.0 contact hours – expires September 30, 2027

This professional development activity will provide new information to those new to the nursing practice and will serve as a refresher course for the seasoned nurses. According to the Sepsis Alliance (2024), Sepsis is the 3rd leading cause of death in the U.S hospitals and a leading cause of patient readmissions. It is imperative that nurses are aware of risk factors, symptoms, and diseases management regimens in order to prevent the on-set of the disease, deter the progression of the disease, and improve patient care outcomes.

Session Objectives:

  • Identify risk factors for sepsis
  • Apply sepsis prevention knowledge
  • Examine morbidity and mortality in those diagnosed with sepsis
  • Differentiate sepsis from infection

Successful completion of learning activity:

Participants who view the module in its entirety, complete the evaluation form, and pass the post-test with 80% or higher, will receive an electronic certificate via email. RNs completing the activity will receive a 1.0 contact hour of nursing continuing education.

The Michigan Nurses Association (MNA) is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
