Total Patient Care: Navigating Psychiatric Comorbidities in Adolescents and Adults in Acute Settings
1.0 contact hour – September 4, 2026, through September 30, 2028
This presentation provides practical strategies to help nurses safely and compassionately care for patients with psychiatric comorbidities in general acute care settings. Through integrated assessments, therapeutic communication, environmental safety, objective documentation, appropriate boundaries, and teamwork, nurses can support both physical and mental health while protecting their own practice and well-being.
Session Objectives:
• Synthesize psych assessments into routine care workflows to improve efficiency and minimize disruption
• Develop day/night safety plans for consistent management of psychiatric comorbidities
• Design a Psychiatric Care Bundle that streamlines safety checks, environmental assessments, and documentation
• Develop a Safe-Room framework to reduce behavioral escalation through environmental management
Successful completion of learning activity:
Participants who view the module in its entirety, pass the post-test with 80% or higher and complete the evaluation form, will receive an electronic certificate via email. RNs completing the activity will receive a 1.0 contact hour of continuing education.
The Michigan Nurses Association (MNA) is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

AWARDING OF CE
