This professional development activity will explore how unconscious biases influence patient-provider interactions and decision-making and will address the challenges and solutions related to language barriers in a clinical setting. Also included in this activity are strategies on how to combat implicit bias, cultivate cultural humility and compassion when providing care to patients who are different from you.
Session Objectives:
- Participants will be able to define implicit biases and recognize their potential impact on interpersonal interactions and decision-making processes.
- Participants will gain an understanding of the challenges associated with language barriers, including how they affect communication and access to services, and learn strategies to address language barriers.
- Participants will learn how restorative justice practices can be used to build stronger communities by promoting accountability, healing, and reconciliation.
Successful completion of learning activity:
Participants who view this presentation in its entirety, complete the evaluation form, and pass the post-test with 80% or higher, will receive an electronic certificate via email. RNs completing the activity will receive 4.0 contact hours of continuing education.
