Thursday: Munson Nurses to Hold Town Hall in Traverse City
TRAVERSE CITY – Munson Medical Center registered nurses will host a community town hall this Thursday (March 26th) to shine a light on their concerns about safe staffing at the hospital and their need for a fair contract. Community members are invited to attend to hear from the nurses, share their own patient care experiences, and learn how they can help.
The community town hall will take place from 6:30 pm to approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, at the Delamar Hotel, 615 E. Front St. in Traverse City. Everyone is welcome.
“Nurses and community members will come together and advocate for changes to support nurses and improve our hospital, especially when it comes to safe staffing,” said Laura Nilsson, RN, president of the Traverse City Munson Nurses Association (TCMNA). “As nurses, we are patient advocates first and foremost. Munson’s staffing crisis is driving people away and making it hard for us to provide the skilled care that all patients deserve. We are fighting for a fair contract that will create conditions that attract and retain nurses and enable us to provide safe, quality care at all times.”
Munson nurses have been working without a contract since it expired on March 10. As of this writing, Munson Medical Center executives have not agreed to another bargaining date.
The Traverse City Munson Nurses Association (TCMNA) is a local bargaining unit of the Michigan Nurses Association, the largest union and professional association representing registered nurses and healthcare professionals in Michigan. MNA is an affiliate of National Nurses United and the AFL-CIO.
