RNs call on Michigan Medicine to celebrate the 2018 U.S. News and World Report ranking by putting safe staffing guarantees in writing

(Ann Arbor, MI) Today, as the University of Michigan holds a celebration to reveal Michigan Medicine’s 2018 U.S. News and World Report ranking, nurses call for a fair contract that recognizes their contributions to quality care and guarantees safe staffing levels for patients.

“This ranking confirms that U of M nurses provide world-class care. Administrators can honor RN contributions to our national reputation by negotiating a fair contract. Anything less is just lip service,” said Katie Oppenheim, RN and Chair of the University of Michigan Professional Nurse Council, which is an affiliate of the Michigan Nurses Association. “We are fighting for a contract that maintains current staffing levels and safe nurse workloads so that every patient can continue to expect excellence.”

Nurses are currently pursuing unfair labor practice charges against the University. Details can be found at: https://www.minurses.org/news/michigan-medicine-breaks-a-written-commitment-to-maintain-current-rn-staffing-levels/

The Michigan Nurses Association (MNA) is the largest, most effective union for registered nurses in Michigan, advocating for nurses and their patients at the State Capitol, in the community, and at the bargaining table.
