MNA statement on Michigan Senate vote to restore worker freedom

Lansing, MI – In response to the Michigan Senate’s vote today, Jamie Brown, a critical care nurse and president of the Michigan Nurses Association, provided the following statement:

“Michigan nurses and healthcare workers applaud today’s state senate vote to restore worker freedom. Michigan will be the first state in over half a century to reinstate the right of workers to build a stronger collective voice through contractual union security language. This will allow us to more effectively advocate for our patients and our community on the job and at the bargaining table. Today’s vote is just the beginning. We will continue to advocate for pro-labor policies in the months ahead. As the popularity of unions continues to rise, now is the time to enact legislation that makes it easier for working people to speak out. Michigan has historically led the way for workers’ rights. Now, we will do so once again.”

The Michigan Nurses Association is the largest and most effective union for nurses and healthcare professionals in Michigan, representing approximately 13,000 members across the state. MNA is an affiliate of National Nurses United and the AFL-CIO.
