From Violence to Respect
Developing a Culture of Civility within the Healthcare Setting
Thursday, September 10th, 2009
USWA 12075 Hall
3510 James Savage Rd., Midland

Do nurses really eat their young? Nurses, unfortunately, can sometimes be extremely unpleasant to each other. Find out the roots of lateral violence (nurse to nurse aggression), how it affects your practice, and what can be done to stop it.

During the course of the free two-hour seminar, participants will be introduced to common forms of lateral violence, its effect at the individual and corporate level, and ways to decrease the damage caused by incivility. Participants will also take part in developing appropriate responses to lateral violence though role-playing using various scenarios.

Approximately 60% of newly registered nurses leave their first position within six months because of some form of lateral violence perpetrated against them.
-Martha Griffin, RN, CS, PhD
